Amelie

I don't know how this always finds its way to me, but this composer's music and I just seem to meet a lot.
You know, like when there's a thing that you just notice, again and again, without seeking it out.
Like when someone's talking about it, or you hear it somewhere, etc.

I love the film pretty whole-heartedly. If you haven't seen it, I really really really recommend it.
Some seriously super-super storytelling.

Composer Yann Tiersen. Awesome human.

I MISS THEATRE

I miss you, I say! Seriously!
I miss theatre so much.

This little outburst was brought on by this circus show I just watched (not live, TV broadcast), by this Canadian troupe called Cirque Eloize. Their show "Rain" - Comme une pluie dans tes yeux.

I think they are worth checking out.

The show had this amazing sense of nostalgia about it. It's not usually my thing, but it worked so so well. This bittersweet circus cabaret with the most amazing acrobats, some songs, some silly bits, not with clowns but exceedingly charming people.
Just, I love circus. I think it just holds what I hold dear - the playful nature. I don't like animal circus, nor do I think it's necessary.
Circus is about grown-ups doing what we should be doing - marveling at the world, and responding to it. The laughter, the amazement, and the music, and just, all of it in this big glorious nostalgic French pie. Superb.
And just silly enough.
And I liked how simple it was. I'm a big fan of Cirque du Soleil but their stuff is just so grand in scale (I don't know a better word for describing this). Eloize's stuff was so much more low-key, and simple, like I could go away from seeing their show and do some of it myself - just have fun.

Awesome. Truly awesome.
Thanks, ETV, for broadcasting good things.

a perfect day for daydreaming

And laundry.
A perfect day for laundry. Hottest day of the year in London, but there is still a little breeze. So I hung all the washing out. Perfect day for laundry.

My head is full of mixed German and French phrases. Ferocious learning for the summer course tomorrow. Hrvatska was too delicious for working.

A perfect day for daydreaming. About cold coffee, and singing, and The Perfect Date, and the sea, and being home, oh, and finding a cheap flight, and fresh fish (!) and ...I think that's all really. If I daydream about anything else, I'll update.

I've heard the ice-cream truck at least 3 times today. It's nice.

I think, i THINK, that the sea is the love of my life. And I am by no means sure of this, hence the emphasised "think".

Watermelon.
Watermelon.
And curls. And going out.
And the fact that the summer will come again.

I think I want to learn how to make good jam.M.
