Viggo Mortensen

Maria's inspirational men, number 3.
At least.

And so ladies and gentlemen.
Let's look at Viggo.

Son of a farmer, spent his childhood everywhere - Venezuela, Argentina, Denmark.
In addition to acting, he is also a poet, a photographer and a painter.
After graduating from university in the States, he moved back to Denmark, driven by a need for a defining purpose in life. During this time he worked some odd jobs, including dock worker, truck driver and flower seller.
He speaks English, Danish, Spanish, French, Swedish and Norwegian.
He is a super horseman.

Oh, he is also a jazz musician.

The versatility, the languages, the quality of his work, the films.
I just find him so awesome, so talented and warm.

Viggo.

"Life is short... I like to pay attention while I'm going through it. Whatever I see, like anyone else, I'm going to filter it and create my own idea of what it is. - on painting, creating music, writing poetry, and taking photographs in addition to acting."

eyes

I truly wanna squint into the sun.
Eyes almost shut, and so much light coming in.
Light and warmth.

I wanna squint into the sun.

Sense.

lights off

And if you can, tonight, then please turn off your lights.
Get some candles.
Think some thoughts, or chat to your friends.
And turn off the lights.

Christmas + zen

I've heard so many people (more than usual) this year mention the holiday hustle, and how busy it is. So many people just saying how they don't really want to go into town, or go Christmas shopping, because everyone is acting fairly deranged, which I'm not debating.
All I wanted to say was that I just think it's such a shame that the Christmas holidays for the majority have become something that takes away their energy as opposed to giving them energy.

So since the holidays are now officially over I hope the end of the year will give you some time to gather some awesome new energy and recharge. Doesn't matter whether it's from your family, your friends, or the place you live, or the local Christmas market.
Light a candle, or whatever, and think some really nice, peaceful, happy thoughts.

A zen-ful end-of-the-old-year to you.

SÜGIS

I'd like to speak elvish. That would be cool. The Tolkien kind of Elvish.

I would like to spend my entire autumn in that room (the last photo) with the leather sofa and the big map. Just planning, planning, planning my next move. Planning the next spring and the next summer. Eating bread that A. has made, and smother it with the triple citrus marmalade that I've made. ("Maria's Marmalade", of course.) I'd sit there and I'd plan. And therefore every autumn I wouldn't think well, this is silly, why the hell must I wear clothing, but instead, I'd know that this was time to plan. Proper hibernation.
And I would always have candles on the windowsill, so I could say "lights will guide you home", or at least will guide you to me. I think that's why I like the Estonian day for spirits ("hingedepäev"). It's somewhere very beginning of November. And it's just to commemorate. And you know, in case there are any lost spirits or souls out there, lighting candles so they know how to find their way. It is just lovely. And I like it so very much. It just triggers some sort of sentimentality, in me. And I like candles anyway.
Tomorrow might be a day for a cracking cup of cappuccino.

The one benefit of autumn is that I want to cook more. And I don't mean make food, but seriously cook. Something like the lamb ravioli and broth below. And bake. Because, I mean, cake and autumn is just something else.

Really working at this autumn thing.
Love,

M.

buena vista

Elämä on laiffi. Those who don't know or understand this saying, if you have a spare second, google it.

Disclaimer; written in retrospective. This is a fairly meaningless post. Because my head is jumbled.

It's sunny today. And we're singing outside. It kinda feels like I made a deal with the Devil or something, because every time we're outdoors the clouds leave. Just leave. Go home. I love it. A good outdoor concert is just so good. (Another disclaimer. Considering Estonian weather, this truly is not much short of a miracle.)

Gentlemen, HVAR AWAITS!
I'm leaving for Helsinki in a week, to fly to Split on Monday. The weather forecast awaits below. (Disclaimer #3; I seem to be very fond of the word "awaits".)

So. The other day I baked blueberry tartlets.

Baking. fixes. everything.
At least with me. I like how precise it is, and of course, the outcome. I'll post some pictures of said tartlets later. They looked fit.

So.
Whoever you are, and if and when you happen to read this post,
All I can say to end it is,

the Devil still doesn't play fair, M.
