direction(s)

First of all.
Can I just say.
I know most of this makes me sound like an actual psycho, all this emotional instability et cetera.

BUT. It's not like I'm moaning or whatever because I think it's super nice.
This is just a by-product of what happens when a person undergoes some serious changes.
And these changes are positive!
But GOD it's hard sometimes.
Hard and BORING.
But whatever.

I much prefer being what I'm like right now, than what I was like before.
So I'll take the sh*t parts with a big pinch of salt, and on we go.

**

Well, well.
All this just keeps going up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down.

Same with today.
Everything is up and down.

Mid-April.

God, what/such confusion.

I really want something to hold on to in this current madness.
And so I shall hold on to the idea that this will pass, and the seas will most definitely calm down.

Peace and love.
Yours truly, always.

M.

One from yesterday, one from this TV show from 2010.

Tuesday, November 26

and so..

..I bow out.

I take my hat, and put it on.
I take my coat, and button it up.
I take my scarf, and then tie it.
I take my bag, and close it, leave all the unwanted bits.
I slip on the gloves, and open the door.

I bow gently, and smize somewhat.
And leave.

I bow out.

Onto the next adventure.

Life is all about choices, and risks.
And decisions.

So this is mine.

I am not this.
I am something entirely different.

And therefore, I bow out.
Because I simply must.
Anything else would simply count as a crime against the Self.

A soul-crime.

So therefore, I take my hat, take a bow, and take a new route.

I Love you all.
Time to revisit some shaping moments in our lives.
Get to know them, and then leave them.

And always recognise the soul-time to bow out, and leave something, that no longer serves you.

Yours truly.
Always.

done

This week is finally over.

I'm so pleased.

Re-cap.
Did some TV recording stuff, then some rehearsals, put together a programme for this school/education concert thing, had two of those on Friday, also saw some theatre, had some interesting emotions, and consequential thoughts, then a great catch-up with M-L, and then a good night out.
And it's done, and I'm so so pleased.

Onto the next one.

Love.

a lonely life

First of all, hello, all!
I'm back from "the South".
3 gigs later, I'm back.

They all went supremely well.
3 PACKED churches.
I'm so grateful, I truly am.
So the only thing to do is to stay super thankful, humble and work my balls off.

But I just have to say - it is a lonely life.
The guys I'm doing it with have wives and families and stuff.
I come home to the cat.
Love the cat as I do, but y'know..
It's just.
I'm not saying I want a family like tomorrow.
All I am saying is - touring gets sad, because I want to come home and SHARE this stuff you know?
With someone who cares about my existence.

AND I'm not moaning out of thin air - it is such a sharp contrast.
Having a fulll hall, with people literally loving what we're doing, or what I'm doing. You can see the emotion, we feel it and they feel it. And then coming home to nothing.
There was this little girl, who came up to the stage once we had finished just to hug me because "I was so nice".
I mean, seriously.
And then just four walls, my cup of tea and nothing.

This used to really really fuel the very unpleasant sides of my character back in the day.
Now I'm just better, I guess, at dealing with it.
Besides, I hear it coming way from the other side of the hill, which also helps.

And so, I'm going to power on.
Use some of the stuff the Spanish one recommended.
The nice stuff.

We had a picnic the other day, with the Tartu girls.
We chatted for a few hours, had some cheese and cherries and stuff.
It was so very nice.

Share, share, share.

Monday, May 13

5 days

5 days non-blog.
5 days of some rehearsals, a lot of time in a library trying to find some music, which I found.
5 days of stressing about two gigs, and doing the two gigs, and them going well.

So in short all is well.
In some more detail, however, stuff's weird.
I still don't get where this weirdness is coming from.
It's boring to experience so I don't even know how boring it must be to read about it.
But as ever, everything is a work in progress, so I'm not despairing too much.

There's some things I need to do, and get done.
So I'll do that soon.

For now, I'm eating some cantarell mushroom pasta in Vapiano.
Seeing dad and the spanish one later.
Things need to be decided and I don't like deciding.
Note to self: make friends with decision-making.

I'll do my very very best not to disappear.

Peace out, lovely-ones.

engine

A while ago I started this post about feeling like I turned the engine off.
I mean, a long long while.
It's a shame I don't remember the date, I like to place these things in a linear context. (Way in 2012 I think. October, November?)

And let's be honest - I'm still here. I'm still at a place where the engine is still off.
Like, I used to be SO driven it was crazy.
I don't necessarily want to be like that again, but I want some of it back, so so bad.

I'm not even going to try and figure out what happened, or where did it go.
Did i get scared? Whatever.

Truth is, everything we either look forward to, or everything we are afraid of, it all comes from within ourselves. So it's pointless running.
Cause it's based right here, in my pasty-looking pretty little head.

We project and we receive.
Project different and you receive different.

So why don't I want anything?
You see the thing is, it's really really starting to annoy me.
I want to do things, and look forward to things, but something is not clicking to place.
And it's making me sad, cause it's spring and you know. Spring yayy! Should be the time everyone usually gets super excited.

Ramble-y Tuesday lunchtime.
But whatever.
Where there's a question, you'll receive an answer.
I hope.

Turn.
it.
on.
M.

Wednesday, March 27

today

Today was a good day.

Picked up some music, practised, got out my diary once more (!!!) - it's been dormant for about 3 weeks, had some Vapiano pasta with the pretty one - creamy chicken all around, thought some good thoughts and had a fairly deep and fairly meaningful with A.
And that's how it rolled.

Bring on Wednesday.

Good Tuesday.
M.

The boxes and I, forever in love.

freaking out

Today is Sunday. I'm leaving on Wednesday.
I am freaking out.

In other news, we had another super fun day today. (Yesterday consisted of good lunch and gaming at my old friend's house.)
We started off being really useful and got stuff done. Then went for some coffee. Came home, went for bowling (I won, yay!) And then came home to eat stuff in our den (yes, we built a den yesterday) and watch BAFTAs.

And now I've realised that when I wake up tomorrow, it will be "I'm moving the day after tomorrow" which is freaking me out.

The massive saving grace of this evening is the fact that J. decided to give me her jumper that says "YAY!" on it, which I think is pretty fitting. And apparently it works really well in either inappropriate or really stupidly stupid situations, or just in a crap mood.
And I love this jumper.

Happy Monday morning that's around the corner.

control

Okay.

Right now I'm going to make a promise to myself.
And it is pretty simple.

I will never ever again let things grow over my head.

I will stay on top of the little things, the communicating, and talking, to seeing, the telling.
And I will not let myself bury myself under this pile of stuff, that otherwise would be nice and/or exciting.

The wave is the same.
It is up to me to ride it, or get crushed under it.

I will stay on top.

advice

Okay, so, here's some advice that I will try and stick to till I die. Literally, die. End of my life.

Don't lose your balls.

(I sincerely hope you understand that by "balls" I mean, character.)

No one is worth it.
No one.
Ever.
At times in our colourful lives we might think that some seemingly more wonderful individuals are worth us losing our balls and/or our spines, but truth is, they are not.
Like, really.
No, honestly. They are not.
Okay, you will for the time being misplace your balls, and pretend to be something else for someone else, but once you find your spine again, then what?

Cause the truth is, if someone won't like you, love you, respect you, or even give you their time with your balls attached, they won't like you later on once you reveal them. (I mean, "SURPRISE! I'm actually a very different kind of person." Really?)

So it is truly truly easier for everyone involved if me and you walk through life the way we are, balls, spines and all, using the language we like, being as gutsy as we like, head high and proud.
Because we can only hide and pretend for so long.

I'm not just talking theoretically, I've done this too many times. With previous relationships, and meeting random people, or just subtle changes to impress someone.
It's much better than it used to be, but still I will occasionally find myself literally, literally pretending to be like something else. Or like, acting like just, NOT ME. And I catch myself doing it and think - hang on, what in the name of sweet baby Jesus was that? This is not you. This is not your character. This is you shoving yourself into a tiny tiny box that you yourself have labelled "What I think other people want".
But here's a news flash - and this is very important - people will be interested in you.
This is the scariest and the truest lesson.
(There isn't one universal Miss SuperFantastic out there that every one just faints at in trouser-dropping enthusiasm. People like different things. People differ. It's simple.)
And once we have the confidence to have faith in this one thing we will find the right people, who want to know us better, and let the wrong ones go and let them meet the people they want to meet.

Because if we don't value what we are, nobody on this sweet-ass planet ever will.

Hooray for the raw guts and character.
With love.
M.

spring

So.
Reasons I will miss London LOADS.
It's currently the 27th of January, and it is +10C outside. And it's sunny.
I mean, seriously?
Back home, we'll have to wait till like, April for this?
End of March, if we're lucky.

But then again, May at home is magical. And I've been moaning about this for about 4 years that I'm not at home during this great great month. And I will be this year.

Pros and cons.
And 10C.

London.
M.
Here's some spring pizza for you, and spring flowers.

2013 happytimez, ftw

I'm finished!
The tour's done and it's been absolutely brilliant. Great audience again tonight, so all was good.
However, I have to say I'll be happy to have some time to get back on the fitness train.
The eating's fine, I'm on that train nice and steady, but I really miss the workout. My body got properly used to it, and I've been so busy, or lazy, or tired - or all three at the same time.
So I miss moving.
Yoga, or Pilates, or a good long walk, or some exercise at home, or whatever. There's so much of it, and I don't really mind. Swimming is good as well. I'd love to rollerskate but that will have to wait.
For now, it's any of the selection above.
As long as it gets the heart rate up.

And if any of you are doing the same thing, please, don't forget to eat.
Seriously, if you don't eat enough, your body will pretty immediately go into its distress mode and as opposed to getting rid of the unnecessary bits of the fat tissue, it will eat at the muscle.
Eat 4-5 times a day to keep your body happy. So it doesn't get rid of your muscles. Muscles are awesome.
If you don't believe me, do some reading. There are so many great blogs and websites and alllllsorts out there.
Just don't undo your own good work, and don't harm your body. Cause it's great.

Speech over.
Get moving and get endorphin-ed.

Crow pose! #yoga #armbalances By the way, the tops from Lorna Jane are fabulous at the moment. The fabric “sticks” to your leggings/pants and it means your shirt doesn’t fall down in tricky poses. Great for when you don’t want your tummy hanging about in yoga class. :) (Taken with Instagram)

growing pains

"No"vember is nearly finished.
And it's been a good month. A good month of many more to come.
I like the fact that it doesn't feel like a month just wasted, or time gone by. Because I find that so frustrating.
And I think the ball's rolling down the right slope. Scary, but exciting.
Like, unraveling, but then realising it's actually fine.

This is so tricky to write down, cause all of this is just so vague, and huge, you know?

So.
Growing pains.
It's not meant to be nice.
When do people stop growing?
I posted, a while ago, just this idea - when do people get too old to get lost.
Or like, when do people cross this barrier into adulthood that means no mistakes, no learning, no nothing. No growing.
Just nothing. Just repetition. Repetition of the same patterns, and same actions, and words, and people, and places. The same routine, and the same habits. The same signposts, and roads, and nooks and crannies, and no wonder, no surprise, no gawking at the miracle of life or staring into space thinking how is anything this wonderful. No chances and no fear.
Children are allowed to go through growing pains. You grow. It's what's meant to happen. Your bones, your teeth, your limbs, your lungs, your rib cage, your spine, your lips, your tongue, your fingers. Everything is stretched and distorted, beyond recognition.
The inconvenience of growing. Growing pains. But at the end of it, you're you.
When do we stop growing. Should we stop growing. Or is it just the fear of another set of growing pains? And then another?
People say you can't change. You don't need to. Just evolve. And let others evolve too.
Why should learning and shifting stop?

Growing pains. They indicate that something big is happening. Not that anyone's dying.
Just that big stuff is going down.

Embrace growing pains.
If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't affect you.
Wouldn't it be boring to stop growing in the early 20s? That you race down this highway of frikkin rainbows, and unicorns, and miracles upon miracles and then just stop?
How much more is there to find and discover?
Of course, this is not something that anyone has to do. It's something a lot of people don't want to do, which is fine. All of this is fine. Plenty of people are happy being comfortable, because comfort is nice, and this is logical and if it feels right, it feels right.
All I'm saying is, if it doesn't feel right, it's not right. It's not that you "are not made for this", or you are not "made" for big things, or the little things, or happiness, or sadness, or love, or adventures, or being happy in your skin, or being on someone else's skin. It's that you aren't there yet. But if you ask the right question, the answer always comes.
So many people get scared. I'm one of them. The front-runner of the Fear Regiment. Seriously. But so what? All of this is scary.
But I won't be one of the people who just stops.
Life's too short, and the world's too interesting.
And there will always be people in your life to give you something for your gums, or then pick you up when gravity doesn't aid your attempt at walking, or help you when you feel dizzy cause your blood circulation can't keep up with your body, or when you're changing so fast, you don't really know what to cling on to.
But there will always be people.

If you're honest, you will always find someone to tie you up.
Or in this case, if you're honest, you will always find someone to listen to you moan about the growing pains.

Because truth be told - it's fucking cool.
M.

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

role-models?

[I actually wrote a post on this exact same subject matter some months ago, but never posted it (and have deleted it by now.)]

I saw this photo today.
A girl posted a photo of herself on Facebook, in her underwear. Her subtle bottom line was something like this - "THIS IS MY BODY, F*CK YOU."
She is clearly overweight, and has the stretchmarks to prove it (which is her choice, she is fine with it, as she explains in the photo comment.)
She posted this as a message to all the people who have ever bullied her, or called her weight-themed names.

Now then.
The reason why this post annoyed me to ridiculousness is not the fact that the photo had around 30,000 comments (and thousands more "likes"). Fine.
Most of them were positive. Also fine.
However, a lot of them claimed her to be a brilliant role model.

.....WHAT?

WHAT ABOUT HEALTHY?

Further reading the 30,000, there were some who spoke sense.
If it is so no-go to glamorise being underweight, surely it is the same thing with being overweight.
This is not to say this girl wasn't pretty, or bubbly looking, I'm sure she has a lovely personality and all the rest.
However, the point is - what are we accepting, and endorsing.

I am ecstatic for this girl that she is happy in her own skin (which certainly is something to be very proud of), and that she is brave (for lack of a better word) enough to post a photo of herself nearly naked on Facebook (which again, is her choice to do so).
BUT.

IS SHE REALLY A ROLE-MODEL?

(DISCLAIMER: she does not claim to be one, however, the majority of the 30,000 seem to consider her as one.)
Would I really want this person to be the lifestyle beacon for my son or my daughter?
NO.

The anorexia problem is huge. "Skinny" and the problems that it carries with it - also huge.
So is unhealthy eating. So is leading an unhealthy lifestyle.

Seriously though. Seriously.
What is this m a d n e s s ?

This is one of the better, reasonable comments.
This is not a fat/skinny issue, it is a health issue. Being overweight or obese can result in a long list of health-related issues which include (according to the CDC);
Coronary heart disease

Type 2 diabetes
Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
Stroke
Liver and Gallbladder disease
Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)
-
These issues will only worsen and come with a higher likelihood with age. Being overweight and obese in America is why so many are having health issues and why the healthcare system is overloaded and extremely costly. I struggled with my own weight issues on and off from the 3rd grade until I was a young adult. This was due to being uneducated about a proper diet and living a mostly sedentary lifestyle. It is easy to blame others and to not take responsibility for yourself. I can understand the insecurity, name calling and bullying that this lady felt because I dealt with all that too - but celebrating being unhealthy is not a step in the right direction.
And yes, being overweight and obese is NOT healthy no matter what anyone says. I am glad she has the confidence that she possesses and yes she is beautiful girl, but simply accepting an unhealthy lifestyle is not going to truly fix anything. We are sending the wrong message when we enable people with unhealthy habits.

Following on from what I said earlier about my children and role-models, there's this woman saying she's going to show this photo to her 9-year-old daughter. - - -

A
HEALTHY
LIFESTYLE

What happened?
Why is that not in the battle?
Why is it LITERALLY between ribs-sticking-out and stretchmark-ed?

WHAT HAPPENED TO HEALTHY?

No.
I will try my hardest to pass on a healthy understanding of food to my children-to-come, an understanding of a balanced diet. You absolutely should eat everything, but it is all about knowing how to eat it in moderation.
Making sure I teach my children how to cook and cook well.
And see that yes, people are different, but HEALTHY is one that applies to ONE AND ALL.

The opposite of "skinny" in this fight for health is not "obese". It is just that - healthy.

LET'S BRING BACK HEALTHY, PLEASE.
